To truly understand my story, you must first understand the politics of Egbema. For years, Mr. Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, attempted to control the very heart of the Egbema traditional institution, our ancestral stool.
His pattern of interference was nothing new. He fought relentlessly against our former monarch, His Royal Majesty King Tiemo, using government connections and influence during the military transition era to frustrate him.
Despite those efforts, King Tiemo received his official staff of office and reigned into his nineties. When King Tiemo passed away in 2020, Tompolo publicly boasted that he would finally install his own preferred candidate over our people.
However, after two years of vacancy, the recognized kingmakers gathered to decide the future of the Egbema Kingdom.
They did not want a divided house; they wanted leadership rooted in tradition and unity.
On October 18, 2022, at Ofunama, all the key traditional authorities, including the Toripuwei, the Perecoriwei, the Fufuwei, the oldest man in the kingdom, and the senior elders of my ruling house, came together. They Unanimously and voluntarily, they proclaimed me, Napoleon Sekegbekumor Egin, as the King-Elect of Egbema Kingdom.
The news of my selection triggered immediate retaliation from Oporoza House. At approximately 9:30 PM that same night, heavily armed men invaded the royal palace at Ogbudugbudu where I was.
They broke into the building. Elderly men were manhandled, beaten, and pushed to the floor by the Tompolo Tantita boys.
They pushed me around and dragged me to the riverbank, where I was forced into a speedboat operated by personnel associated with Tantita Security Services, including persons known as Super Ebilade, Ebipade Kari, Ekomieyefa Uduboh and others. They then drove me through the waterways to a remote camp at Sunny Island.
During the trip, my captors threatened me directly, stating that if I were not a native son of the soil, I would not leave the camp alive though Journalist Austin Ozobo broke the news online that the King-Elect had been kidnapped since he was one the cover the event.
Almost immediately, rival media outlets as the Gbaramatu voice attempted to suppress the story.
I was held in captivity for two days without food or water while my abductors coordinated with Mr. Government Ekpemupolo on phone on how to manage the growing public outcry.
To cover up the abduction before the plan to hand me over to authorities, my captors set up a camera in the camp and forced me to read a scripted statement claiming I had not been kidnapped.
Facing armed men, I complied to protect my life, knowing that statements made under severe duress carry no legal weight. Ironically, during that same recorded video, my captors explicitly admitted to keeping me at the camp for two days.
I was eventually handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS). My legal team immediately submitted a petition requesting a formal investigation into the kidnapping.
However, political pressure was applied to frame the incident as a minor "internal chieftaincy dispute" and halted the DSS Investigation process.
Determined to seek justice, I submitted a second petition to the Nigerian Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad. The police initially invited the suspects for questioning, but the Oporoza House and their political intervention quickly halted the process again.
The lead investigator candidly informed me that powerful political persons had ordered the investigation to stand down, effectively burying the case.
With the police investigation stalled, state political machinery was deployed to block my official recognition.
Even though the Directorate of Chieftaincy Affairs had instructed me to complete my standard medical examinations to forward my file to the Governor but instructions were issued from the Deputy Governor's office to stall my paperwork.
Civil servants explicitly informed me that political orders prevented them from moving my legitimate file forward.
Realizing that human institutions were being manipulated against the clear choice of the kingmakers, I wrote a formal petition addressed to the Governor and placed my trust in divine justice. I took my case to God, knowing I had engaged in no corruption, violence, or unlawful acts.
In the months that followed, several key people who actively took part in the plot against our traditional stool suffered sudden, unexplained illnesses and passed away, while others are still bound to wheelchairs.
Due to ongoing security threats against my life, I was ultimately forced to relocate temporarily to the United Kingdom.
My selection as King-Elect was carried out lawfully and transparently by the rightful kingmakers of the Egbema Kingdom.
Recently, Tompolo called the Egbema elders and admitted to them that he was involved in stopping me from ascending the throne because he does not want me to be the king. He told them that he would give me whatever I want, including a political appointment, if I let the matter go. However, I told them that I do not need anything from Tompolo.
Regardless of political manipulation or physical intimidation, the truth of what transpired remains on record, and those responsible for taking me hostage and breaking the law must ultimately answer for their actions.
